While the vaccine distribution gets underway, New Yorkers cannot get lax about COVID by any means. Hospitalizations continue to rise across the state and there is one message New Yorkers must remember as we approach the close of the holiday season—celebrating smart stops shutdowns. If we stay smart, stay tough and take the steps we know help halt the spread, we will get through this.
The FDA has approved the Yale University School of Public Health "spit test." This is a quick saliva test. Spit into a tube and 5 minutes later a result is shown. It has 90%-95% accuracy. About the same as the nasal swab test. The NBA, MLB and major league soccer have been using this test on thousands of players and staff. This is the kind of test that could be rolled out as a home kit the world over.
As the headline states there may be a possible 208,000 more deaths from Covid-19 by November here in the USA. Most interesting is that if 95% of the public would wear a face mask properly and at the proper time that number drops by 45,000.
Today, New York City begins Phase 3 of reopening but indoor dining will not move forward at this point. The Mid-Hudson region will enter Phase 4 of reopening tomorrow, July 7 and Long Island is on track to enter Phase 4 of Wednesday, July 8.
As COVID-19 cases surge across the country, more and more states are mandating face masks in public places. Next on the list is the state of Kansas. After cases begin to skyrocket chances are all states will require face masks in any public venue. This could last until most of the population is vaccinated.
After months of lockdown and shelter in place COVID-19 does not want to give up. Cases are surging in the sunbelt section of the United States. Why this is occurring is not really known. What is known is that new cases are trending down in age. States are hitting new single day records of the Coronavirus.
