Today, New York is taking further action to protect our state's progress and aggressively respond to clusters emerging in specific areas of the state.In consultation with national public health experts including former CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden, Dr. Noam Ross of the EcoHealth Alliance and Dr. Michael Olsterhold of the University of Minnesota, today we announced the new Cluster Action Initiative to attack these clusters head-on with surgical precision to stop the spread. This action maps the clusters by density of cases. -

FDA Approves Yale University School of Public Health Saliva Test
The FDA has approved the Yale University School of Public Health "spit test." This is a quick saliva test. Spit into a tube and 5 minutes later a result is shown. It has 90%-95% accuracy. About the same as the nasal swab test. The NBA, MLB and major league soccer have been using this test on thousands of players and staff. This is the kind of test that could be rolled out as a home kit the world over. -

In the past we have posted the coronavirus update from Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York. Each evening the Governor sends out an email detailing the current situation in New York State. In tonight's email the governor is allowing ice cream and liquor now to be manufactured in NY State to help out the dairy farmers. On the flip side 100s of liquor licenses have been suspended of bars not keeping social distancing rules. -

A long 5 months has gone by, from winter to spring and now summer. New York City, the hardest hit by the virus in the nation, is now scheduled to open Phase 4 this Monday July 20, 2020. Even so, gyms and movie theaters are not on the reopening list and no one knows when they will come back online. -
Moderna Vaccine Produced Antibodies in All Patients Tested
Some good news to cheer about as reported by Bloomberg News on the Moderna Vaccine.
But all 42 people who got both scheduled doses of the vaccine generated antibodies capable of neutralizing the coronavirus, according to the study results. The final stage trial will compare the vaccine to placebo shots in 30,000 healthy people at high risk of coming down with the coronavirus.

Cuomo warns visitors from 'highest-risk' coronavirus states to fill out paperwork or face $2,000 fine
When traveling overseas and returning to the USA the airlines hand out US Customs & Border Protection documents that need to be filled out upon re-entering the USA. Now, if you fly into any NY airport documents will be handed out and be filled in by passengers arriving in NY about where they came from and where are they going to with current contact information. If the paperwork is not handed in before leaving the airport it's an immediate $2000 fine. This is to be sure people arriving from hot spots quarantine 14 days upon arrival. -
240 Scientists Decree That Coronavirus Spreads In The Air Ventilation A Concern
A group of about 240 scientists is urging health care agencies and government officials to pay more attention to the potential airborne transmission of the new coronavirus.
"There is significant potential for inhalation exposure to viruses in microscopic respiratory droplets (microdroplets) at short to medium distances (up to several meters, or room-scale), and we are advocating for the use of preventive measures to mitigate this route of airborne transmission," the group said in an open letter published Monday in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

July 1 Coronavirus Update From Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York.
New York City is expected to enter Phase 3 of reopening on Monday, July 6, but due to concerns about the risk of spreading the virus, indoor dining in NYC will be postponed. As we see states across the country that have opted to reopen indoor dining experience upticks in the infection rate, we want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen in New York. And at this point, we can't rely on citizen compliance or local enforcement alone to manage the risk. The safest option is to postpone indoor dining in NYC. -

Florida sees third day of record-high coronavirus cases in one week. The outbreak in Miami is getting serious. People are not wearing masks or social distancing causing more spread of the virus. With record cases being counted in consecutive days the Mayor of Miami Carlos Gimenez will issue an order to close all the beaches.
